Day One
After an excellent, smooth crossing to Heysham and a slightly delayed coach journey, we have all arrived safe and sound at Winmarleigh Hall! The children did us all proud on the boat, with numerous passengers taking the time to come and compliment them on their behaviour and manners - a really lovely start to the week! And that's not all - the whole group were invited to join the Captain on the bridge for a special look at the very impressive workings of the Manxman; a very good treat!
On arrival, there was a slight delay to our coach turning up before making the short journey to Winmarleigh Hall, where the children were quickly sorted into their dorms and groups, and then it was out into the glorious sunshine for some movement!
And before we knew it, we were straight on with the first activities of the week - orienteering, abseiling, giant trapeze to name but some! All good fun, with everyone giving their all (even though tiredness was beginning to kick in!).
The instructors had plenty of fun trying to tell us there was an emu farm nearby, but we didn't fall for that kind of thing!
Our first meal was a success, in a spacious and light dining room which we are sharing with another school, before the first evening activities of the week - a team game challenge including a giant battleships board, 'can off', simple sports races and more.
After that, it was time to relax and wind down for bedtime. Naturally, all of the children immediately got into bed and were asleep in a matter of minutes........no, not really! Spirits were high and with plenty to talk about, it was a little while for things to settle down, but soon the corridors were filled with the sound of gentle snoring, the rustle of sweet wrappers and whispered conversations and giggles.
We'll add more photos as we get through the activities and as the wi-fi allows!
