Absences – if your child is ill or unable to come to school for another reason (e.g. dental appointment etc.) please let us know as soon as possible. You can do this by telephone, by sending a written message with a sibling or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. If possible, please try to let us know before 9.30 as this helps with arrangements for the day.
When we know why your child is absent we mark this in the register and the absence is authorised. At the end of the month any unauthorised absences are followed up by the school and then, if still unauthorised, are reported to the Department of Education and may be followed up by them.
Obviously, it is best if your child attends school as regularly as possible. However, we recognise that there may be times when you need to take your child out of school for certain events. The headteacher has the authority to authorise an absence of up to 10 working days in any academic year to cover these situations. Requests for leave of absence should be made using the relevant form which is attached below and is available from the office. In very exceptional circumstances the headteacher may extend this leave of absence and parents should speak to her if they feel they have a particular case which may fall into this category.
