Our Year Six children enjoyed a fantastic visit to the Gaiety Theatre today, as part of their ongoing topic, 'Revolution!'. This was a terrific tour which highlighted so much of what the children have been learning about during their study of the Victorian era; from the differences in everyday life between rich and poor (we saw the different seating and standing arrangements for the audiences) to the decoration style of William Morris (lots of examples of this type!), from the importance of theatre and the arts to Victorian society (we learned about the money and glamour associated with the theatre...and the not so glamorous life of the travelling performers!) to the incredible ingenuity of the Victorian age (we saw the amazing engineering and creativity of the various stage 'traps', the electric lighting, the stage 'legs'....!).
A fantastic day out - our most sincere thanks to the welcoming and knowledgeable folk of the Gaiety Theatre!
