Our Year 6 children are starting the new year with the brilliant 'Blood Heart' project - a fascinating project with a strong Science element! And to get things 'pumping' (ha ha), the children have been meeting the first objective of our Science programme of study for the term; that is, identify and name the main parts of the human circulatory system, and describe the functions of the heart, blood vessels and blood. And it's a great way to develop reading skills too; a key Year 6 reading objective is to retrieve, record and present a range of relevant information from fiction and non-fiction texts, focusing on the evidence from the text!
The fantastic thing here is that as well as the wonderful knowledge on show, the children have carried out this particular bit of research themselves, working collaboratively to find and extract key knowledge, check its validity and then decide how best to 'show what they know'! It's a great start to the topic, and as you can see, our pupils have not only found out a lot, they've presented it beautifully too!
