It's all hands on deck and a yo-ho-ho in Year 2 this term, as our children are enjoying an exciting topic on the high seas this term! Yes, our children have been finding out about boats and ships of all shapes and sizes. They’ll write about visits and visitors, read information books, investigate amazing sea rescues and write postcards and poetry influenced by the sea. Their growing science skills will help them to understand how boats float and they’ll design and make model ships using a variety of materials. And as you can see in the pictures above, the children have taken the time study paintings of boats and draw detailed pictures of their own. Using map reading skills will help our pupils to identify different seas and oceans, and they’ll learn about famous sea explorers. Stories of pirates will inspire the classes to make pirate flags, treasure maps and fact files. They’ll even find out how to talk and sing like a pirate!
