Not 'messing about by the river', but 'learning a lot by the river'! Our Year 4 children are enjoying their topic 'Misty Mountain, Winding River' - in fact, they're up to their knees in it! Yes, the children went on a field trip to the river to carry out some brilliant geographical research; using ordnance survey maps, grid references, identifying key features of the area (both physical and human), creating a labelled sketch of the river, as well as measuring the width, depth and flow rate of the river itself! The children will be using that data to spot patterns which tell them some facts about the river, such as 'Our data shows that the river widens as it flows downstream’ or ‘The water flowed quicker in the rockier upstream areas’. It's great, exciting learning in our beautiful local area - well done Year 4!
